Little Bluestem

$7.00

Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) is a pretty grass native to our area beloved it for its bluish-green leaves and tall, upright growth. The leaves stay colorful all year and make a great background for prairie flowers. By fall, Little Bluestem grows into dense mounds up to 3 feet tall and turns a lovely reddish-brown. It also produces lighted tufted seeds. The sturdy clumps can handle snow and rain, so the reddish stems stay standing through most of winter. This grass does well in dry, sandy soil and pairs nicely with prairie flowers. While it can adapt to different conditions, it's not the best choice for wet areas or heavy clay soil.
